About
Distant is a multi-national deathcore group formed in 2014 from members hailing from the Netherlands and Slovakia. The formation of the band came at a time when modern deathcore bands were moving away from just playing music characterized by numerous breakdowns to include dark atmospherics and cinematic narratives as well as highly technical musicianship.
The inspiration drawn from extreme metal bands like death metal, slam, blackened deathcore, and downtempo deathcore resulted in a distinct sound made up of heavy riffs, low guitar tunings, brutal breakdowns, and soundscapes.
Building an Underground Reputation
In their early stages, Distant produced a string of singles and EPs which were key in establishing themselves within the underground metal scene. Social media, streaming services, and their concerts gradually built awareness within the circle of fans of extreme music around the globe.
Unusual for many other new deathcore groups, Distant concentrated much on world-building and story-telling, using the dark fantasy, horror, and even narrative motifs linking all their tracks together.
Their talent at blending brutality and atmospheric qualities was immediately apparent.
